Diamond Processing Hub in Northern Cape

In 2007 Blueprint was appointed by De Beers and the government of the Northern Cape to design and develop a business plan for the establishment of a Diamond and Jewellery Processing Hub in Kimberley in the Northern Cape. The project took a team of experts five months to complete and today this Hub is a reality…announced today November 7th 2011, the world-class diamond and jewellery academy aimed at establishing Kimberley as a centre of excellence within the South African Development Community region has been launched. The Kimberley International Diamond and Jewellery Academy (Kidja) resulted from a partnership between the Northern Cape provincial government and the Diamond Trading Company of South Africa. De Beers has committed R7m of which R5m has been released with a further R2m committed for bursaries for Kidja students. The academy has 50 students from the province, with other students coming from as far away as Zimbabwe, Namibia and Malawi. Kidja will not only train people, but will also ensure that students will get support in seeking employment and establishing their own SMMEs. The Blueprint team (Dieter Setz, Gordon Freer, Kevin Ponter and Mpumi Ramphomane) are delighted this project has finally come to pass and wishes KIDJA all the best for the future.
