International Mandela Day - WC:  WftC Witsand - Gouristmond 13/16

EPIP projects were assigned a task to be involved in the 67 minutes observation of Mandela Day country wide on 18 July 2014. Activities identified were to be focused on waste

  • The celebration of Mandela Day aims to serve as a global call to action for people to "recognise their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better“
  • Nelson Mandela has been making an imprint on the world for 67 years, beginning in 1942 when he first started to campaign for the human rights of every South African. His life has been an inspiration to the world,
  • By devoting 67 minutes of their time – one minute for every year of Mandela’s public service – people can make a small gesture of solidarity with humanity and a step towards a global movement for good.

67 minutes for International Mandela day was celebrated in many ways all over the
world but at Hessequa the following areas were identified:

Local creches and Old Age Homes.
Cllr Annemarie Joubert from Hessequa Municipality was also part of the celebrations.

    The following activities were done by the beneficiaries:
  • Grasscutting
  • Litter picking
  • Cleaning the streets in Previously disadvantage areas
  • Giving the local crèches toys and snack packs for kids
  • Giving the local old age home coffee and cleaning detergents
